Stockton, Calif. – The American Hockey League announced today that Stockton Heat rookie forward Mark Jankowski has been named to the 2016-17 AHL All-Rookie Team as voted by coaches, players, and media in each of the league’s 30 member cities.
“This is a great honor for Mark and I think people are recognizing his great work in his first season, we are thrilled he’s been given this honor,” Heat Head Coach Ryan Huska said. “Mark’s been a big part of our team’s success both on and off the ice this season and he’s a great example what Stockton Heat hockey is all about.”
Entering tonight’s game against the San Diego Gulls, Jankowski leads all AHL rookies with 26 goals and is second with 51 points.
Jankowski, 22, was just named as the CCM/AHL Rookie of the Month in March after recording 16 points and a plus-12 rating in 13 games. During the course of the month, Jankowski also built the longest point streak in Stockton Heat history having picked up points in nine-straight games (4-6-10) dating back to March 12.
The Heat centerman has picked up a number of accolades, team records and even Heat firsts this season including his nomination as the IOA/American AHL Specialty Man of the Year for his contributions in the Stockton and Central Valley Community, recorded the Heat’s first ever hat trick back on January 20, has tied records for most points in a single game and is just one goal away from matching the most goals scored in a single season by any Heat player and six points away from matching the most points scored by a Heat player in a single season.
Jankowski joins fellow forwards Jake Guentzel (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins) and Daniel O’Regan (San Jose Barracuda), defenseman Devon Toews (Bridgeport Sound Tigers) and Kyle Wood (Tucson Roadrunners) and goaltender Casey DeSmith (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins) to round out the 2016-17 AHL All-Rookie Team.
Since the AHL began naming an All-Rookie team in 1996-97 only five other players in the Flames organization have earned this honor including J.S. Giguere (Goaltender – 1997-98), Rico Fata (Forward – 1999-00), Daniel Tkaczuk (Forward – 1999-00), Micki DuPont (Defenseman – 2000-01) and Joni Ortio (Goaltender – 2013-14).
Each player will receive a custom-designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2016-17 AHL All-Rookie Team.
