Dear Stockton Heat Hockey Fans:
Well, it doesn’t get any more exciting than that! 201 days ago our players arrived in Stockton for training camp, and since then 77 practices, nearly 40,000 miles on the road and 67 games later, it all came down to a 6 PM match-up tonight against arch-rival San Jose Barracuda to secure a spot in the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs!
Despite the team’s all-out effort, the 2017/18 story ended tonight before a sell-out crowd in an Arena filled with passion and pride, hallmarks of Stockton Heat Hockey.
Our journey was an extraordinary one, seeing 11 players receive call-ups to Calgary, including players like Mark Jankowski and Garnet Hathaway, who were significant contributors to the Flames this season. Or watching Ryan Lomberg, Morgan Klimchuk, Andrew Mangiapane, and most recently, Spencer Foo all make their dreams become reality this season by making their NHL debut, and for Foo even scoring his first NHL goal!
And Foo was one of many young players on the Heat this season who became beloved by fans. Both Mangiapane and Rasmus Andersson became bonafide stars this season, taking big steps in their growth on their way to not only leading their team in various statistical categories, but also ranking among the league leaders at times throughout the year.
Or when the injury bug hit, seeing the emergence of Brett Pollock, who recorded his first professional hat trick, joining an exclusive club of just three other players to accomplish this in Stockton Heat history. The late season emergence of the Emile Poirier, Mike McMurtry and Ryan Lomberg line that helped put the Heat in a position to play meaningful hockey at this point in the season.
Who could forget Cody Goloubef wearing the maple leaf on his chest and representing Canada during the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang and coming back to Stockton with a bronze medal in tow, which he shared with all of us during Hockey Weekend Across America.
Off the ice we embarked on a successful community campaign, led by dozens of player, mascot and staff appearances this season at local schools, hospitals, and at other events. Our new Get in the Game – READ! initiative helped raise the 3rd grade literacy level of five local schools, which saw their second-graders combine to read 15,338 books.
Our successful transition from season tickets to Heat365 Memberships helped engage our most loyal fans in ways never accomplished before, offering year-round events, exclusive Member-Only gifts and events and much more. We’ll continue to improve the program through the feedback of our fans and strive to make sure you get the most bang for your buck, year after year. Fans have responded so positively to the Heat365 Membership program and before our 2017-18 season came to a close, we already had 78% of our current Heat365 Members renew their seats for the 2018-19 season, ranking among the league leaders.
With 175 days until we begin the next chapter of Stockton Heat Hockey, our commitment to our fans and to our community will continue to shape our efforts.
The future is bright, and so much of that optimism is a result of your support and loyalty.
From all of our players, coaches and staff, thanks again and have a safe, healthy and enjoyable off-season!
