This week the Heritage Eye, Skin & Laser Player of the Week goes to Kenny Agostino.
The Heat’s leading scorer padded his stats during the week, putting up a total of 2 goals and 4 assists in three games to finish the season strong. Agostino assisted on the first two Heat goals on Tuesday to kickstart a comeback against the Condors, and while we all know what had happened afterward, Agostino at least breathed life into the Heat offense that was held off the board for nearly 43 minutes.
His two assists in that game broke the tie atop the team lead in multi-point games with Derek Grant, giving Agostino his 16th multi-point effort of the season.
It didn’t last long.
On Saturday wearing the military jersey with pride, New Jersey’s own Kenny Agostino was responsible for creating four of the Heat’s five goals to help capture the victory in front of veterans, active duty and reserve soldiers in attendance.
He started the game with the primary assist on Austin Carroll’s opening goal just under two minutes into the game. At the end of the period, Agostino ensured his multi-point game number would go to 17 with a power play marker.
However San Jose snuck back into the game and took the lead after a tough second period only to find Agostino putting his club on his back. With the extra effort, diving to the ice to wack at a loose puck, Agostino slipped the game tying goal past Barracuda goaltender Aaron Dell and 1:24 later, he had the primary assist on Hunter Shinkaruk’s eventual game winner to give the Heat the 5-4 victory to end their season on home ice with a 22-11-1-0 record.
Important as well, it was Agostino’s second 4-point night of the season tying him with Derek Grant for the most points in a single game by a Heat player this season, and tying him with Grant for the most times that occurred this season, twice for each player.
Honorable Mentions: Hunter Shinkaruk had his third multi-point game with the Heat on Saturday’s win over San Jose, scoring a wrap-around game winner that gave the Heat the win. Freddie Hamilton kick started the offense on Tuesday with his goal in the third period to start the comeback and he added an assist on Saturday to tie his previous career high of 43 points in a season. Last but certainly not least, a nod must be given to the home crowds this season as the fans helped create a tough atmosphere for the visiting teams to play in, backing the team to a 22-11-1-0 record or a .662 points-percentage at Stockton Arena. The Heat also were one of five teams to win 10 in-a-row at home this season.
