Phillips First Pro Goal and Multi-Point Game Helps Heat Beat the Reign
STOCKTON, CALIF. – Matthew Phillips scores his first pro goal and records his first pro multi-point effort as the Heat took down the Ontario Reign 5-1 on Friday at Stockton Arena. The Heat got off to as good of a start as they have all season long with Alan Quine scoring for the Heat in the opening moments of the game. After dominating possession and shots, the Heat would break through again before the final buzzer thanks to Phillips to make it 2-0 after one period of play. The Heat kept things going in the second thanks to Oliver Kylington who backhanded a shot past Ontario goalie Cal Petersen before the visitors would get on the board with a shorthanded goal midway through the contest. Kylington would add his second goal of the night and third point of the evening in the third period, as would Quine as the Heat cruised to the 5-1 victory.

QUOTES
“It feels good. I think I’ve worked hard since the season started and had some good looks, so it was good to have one go in. It was fun, we played one of our best games of the year and it was nice to be a part of the offense and contribute.” – Matthew Phillips on scoring his first pro goal
“Once you get the first one you just relax, play your game and not think to much. I’m going to just take a deep breath and play my game.” – Phillips on getting the monkey off his back
“That was our focus this week was to play a full 60 minutes and play the right way. We took less penalties which is a big help and I think we were just working hard. Our little details working a lot better than in past games, so when that stuff gets pieced together outcomes like that will happen.” – Phillips on the Heat playing a full 60 minutes against Ontario
“Focus on the little things we did well, stay disciplined that’s huge. Don’t hand them any momentum. We’ll go over this game and look at the little things we did and take those into Sunday.” – Phillips on starting a three-game road trip on Sunday and taking momentum from tonight’s result
“I felt good. Our team played a full 60 minutes and when I was hurt, the staff did a good job of keeping me in shape, so I felt good out there.” – Quine on returning after missing eight games due to injury
“It’s frustrating for sure when you know you can help out the team, it’s no fun watching, so I was hungry to get back in and made a good job of making sure I was ready. It was fun to be a part of tonight.” – Quine on watching the team while he was injured from the sidelines
“Well hopefully it’s a page turn for us. I think guys bought in and everyone competed. I think that’s the focus, that we all play for each other.” – Quine on the team turning the page
“We’re all happy for him, he’s been working hard, and he’s obviously a good player, so things are bound to go well for him. We’re just happy for him and hopefully there’s many more to come.” – Quine on Phillips recording his first pro goal
“I think that was a big game for him to be able to get on the scoreboard. He’s someone who’s scored his whole life, so to be able to get that going at this level was pretty important for him. Made some good plays, was tenacious on the goal as well, so really good night for him.” – Head Coach Cail MacLean on Matthew Phillips game
“I thought there was good committment from the group. They talked about it this week and we worked on making sure that we played direct, predictable and playing the right way. I think the guys deserve credit for sticking with the gameplan, executing well but the big thing was that everyone was on the same page and that’s the way we need to play every night.” – Coach MacLean on the complete effort from his team
“Really good, good pop in his step. Obviously he was executing with the puck but his speed looked good and I think a lot credit has to go to [Heat Strength and Conditioning Coach] Rick Davis for that. He’s been working with him off the ice, so through an extended absence, between Rick and Dom Pittis, for Alan to be able to get back into a game at game pace, at top shape; that’s the end result, him helping us win in his first game back.” – Coach MacLean on Alan Quine returning to the lineup with a three-point night
“I think he plays a bigger role than he did last year and he’s able to stand up to the challenge. He’s got a great shot, has great vision and can pass the puck well and those puck skills are really coming through. He’s been the benefactor of some good plays from the forwards. It’s been great to see [Kylington] executing well and taking advantage of this opportunity.” – Coach MacLean on Kylington’s offensive game
“We have to understand the way we played tonight and we have to be simple, move and take advantage of our team assets. The best way to do that is to make sure everyone understands what we’re trying to accomplish.” – Coach MacLean on going into a three-game roadtrip
