Stockton, Calif. – The Stockton Heat, proud AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, announced today in conjunction with the American Hockey League that forward Spencer Foo has been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week ending on January 28, 2018.
“This is a really great honor for Spencer, he’s put in a lot of hard work and time to make himself a better hockey player, and it’s terrific to see him get recognized for his hard work,” Heat Head Coach Ryan Huska said. “For him, his recent form comes down to confidence and a belief that he can contribute at this level, and be a guy that can be counted on every night.”
Foo recorded 3 goals and added 2 assists for 5 points in last weekend’s two-game set against the Texas Stars in Cedar Park, Texas. On Friday, Foo scored twice, including a shorthanded breakaway, during the Heat’s four-goal third period and at the end of the game with the net empty, passed off a chance at his second hat trick of the season to ensure a Heat 6-2 victory, earning his first assist and third point of the night. The forward would record his third-consecutive multi-point game on Saturday’s rematch with the Stars, scoring a goal and adding an assist.
He becomes the first player in Heat history to earn the weekly honor from CCM and the American Hockey League.
In his first season, the 23-year-old rookie from St. Albert, Alberta has recorded 12 goals and 24 points in 39 games this season, is on a career-best, four-game point streak (4-4-8) and has 11 points in his last nine contests.
Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Calgary Flames on July 1, 2017 after three terrific seasons at Union College, he finished his NCAA career just shy of being a point-per-game player, with 112 points in 113 games played. In 2016 after a 62-point season in 38 games for the Dutchmen, Foo was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the best player in NCAA hockey.
In recognition of being named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week, Foo will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Heat home game.
